7 Best Zip Lines in Wales (2025)

The world's fastest zip line is here. So are six more worth screaming about.

Wales has more world-class zip lines per capita than any country on earth. That's not a joke — Zip World alone operates the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe, both in North Wales. But it's not just about Zip World. From family-friendly forest runs to genuine 100mph+ experiences over flooded quarries, Wales has zip line experiences for every age and adrenaline threshold. Most are concentrated in and around Snowdonia, taking advantage of the dramatic quarry landscapes and mountain terrain. This list covers dedicated zip line experiences, not zip wires that are part of adventure parks. Prices range from £20 to £75 per person. Book in advance for summer weekends — the popular ones sell out weeks ahead.

How We Picked These

We've ridden all of these zip lines. Rankings factor in speed/thrill factor, scenery, the overall experience (from booking to landing), and value for money. We also consider whether the experience lives up to the marketing.

Zip World Velocity wire stretching across the vast Penrhyn Quarry with a rider visible
1

Zip World Velocity

The fastest zip line in the world. 100mph over a flooded quarry. It lives up to the hype.

Velocity is the headliner — the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe at 1.5km. You fly prone (Superman-style) at speeds up to 125mph over the cavernous Penrhyn Quarry near Bethesda. The scale is breathtaking — the quarry is genuinely vast, the drop below you real, and the speed incomprehensible until you experience it. The whole package — the briefing, the walk to the launch platform, the view, the ride — is world-class.

Difficulty

Moderate (no skill required, just courage)

Duration

2 hours total (ride time ~1 minute)

Distance

1.5km wire length

Elevation

Cost

£65-75pp

Best for:

Adrenaline seekers wanting a genuine world-record experience

Skip if:

You have a serious fear of heights or weigh over 120kg (weight limits apply). The ride itself is very short for the price — you're paying for the experience, not the minutes.

Insider Tip

Book the first slot of the day for the best chance of clear weather and the shortest queues. The 'Little Zipper' practice line (included) goes first — it's 500m and gives you a feel for it before the main event. Weekday mornings are quietest. The quarry café is decent.

Four riders racing on parallel zip wires at Zip World Titan
2

Zip World Titan

Four people, four wires, racing side-by-side across a quarry. The most fun zip line in Wales.

If Velocity is the solo thrill, Titan is the group experience. Four parallel zip wires let you race side-by-side across the dramatic Llechwedd slate mine near Blaenau Ffestiniog. The course has multiple stages, each getting progressively bigger and faster. It's less about raw speed than Velocity and more about shared experience — screaming alongside friends while flying over quarry lakes. The mining heritage backdrop adds genuine atmosphere.

Child on a zip wire through forest canopy at Zip World Fforest
3

Zip World Fforest Coaster & Zip

The best zip line experience for families — forest setting, multiple activities, and accessible thrills.

Zip World Fforest near Betws-y-Coed is designed for families and those who want adventure without the extreme factor. The zip lines run through beautiful forest canopy, and the site includes the Fforest Coaster (an alpine-style toboggan run) and Treetop Nets. The whole package makes it a full-day family adventure. The zip lines themselves are fun rather than terrifying — perfect for kids and adults who are nervous about Velocity-level thrills.

Difficulty

Easy (age 3+ for some activities, 7+ for zip lines)

Duration

Half to full day

Distance

Various zip stages

Cost

£20-45pp depending on activity combo

Best for:

Families with children, groups wanting multiple activities, anyone wanting gentle thrills

You want adrenaline — this is the family-friendly option. Velocity and Titan deliver more raw excitement.

Insider Tip

The Fforest Coaster is actually more fun than the zip lines for most kids — it's a gravity-powered alpine coaster through the trees and you control the speed. Book the combo ticket for zip line + coaster for best value. The café on site is good.

Illuminated underground cavern at Zip World Caverns with zip wires visible
4

Zip World Caverns

Zip lines UNDERGROUND. Fly through Britain's largest zip line cavern in the dark.

Zip World Caverns takes the zip line concept underground into the massive Llechwedd slate mines. Multiple zip lines, via ferrata bridges, and rope challenges run through illuminated caverns deep beneath the mountain. It's atmospheric, unusual, and unlike any other zip line experience in the world. The scale of the underground chambers is genuinely awe-inspiring. This is the most unique entry on the list.

Difficulty

Moderate (enclosed spaces, not for claustrophobia)

Duration

2-3 hours

Distance

Various stages through the caverns

Elevation

Cost

£50-65pp

Best for:

Anyone wanting a unique adventure experience. Perfect for rainy days (it's underground!).

Skip if:

You're claustrophobic. The caverns are large but you are underground. Also the scrambling/climbing elements may not suit everyone.

Insider Tip

This is the best rainy-day activity in Snowdonia — it's underground so weather is irrelevant. Combine with Titan (same site) for a full day. Wear warm layers — the caverns are cold year-round (around 10°C).

Year-round (underground = weather-proof)

Adventurers traversing underground at Go Below with headlamps illuminating the mine
5

Go Below Underground Adventures

Not just zip lines — a full underground adventure including the deepest zip line in the world.

Go Below operates in abandoned mines near Betws-y-Coed and offers a more hardcore underground adventure than Zip World Caverns. Their 'Ultimate Xtreme' trip includes what they claim is the deepest underground zip line in the world (1,300ft below the surface), plus abseiling, caving, via ferrata, and an underground boat ride. It's more physically demanding and more adventurous than the Zip World offerings — closer to caving meets zip-lining.

Difficulty

Challenging (physical fitness and some courage required)

Duration

4-7 hours depending on trip

Distance

Cost

£55-130pp depending on trip level

Zip World Tower at Hirael Bay with the Menai Strait and Anglesey visible behind

Zip World Tower (Hirael Bay, Bangor)

A new addition — zip from a tower on the coast with views across the Menai Strait.

Zip World's newest venture in Bangor offers zip lines from a purpose-built tower overlooking the Menai Strait and Anglesey. It's a shorter, more accessible experience than Velocity but the coastal setting is unique — you zip with sea views rather than quarry views. Being in Bangor makes it the most convenient zip line for anyone visiting Anglesey or the northern Snowdonia coast.
